The NRL has reduced Parramatta's fine for salary cap breaches by $60,000 after considering the club's appeal.

The Eels in May were fined $525,000 for exceeding all four salary cap categories last year by more than $400,000.

However, their penalty has been reduced to $465,000 after putting forward a clarification of aspects of their second-tier payments.

The club is still facing the loss of four competition points next year unless it undertakes an independent governance review.

Parramatta will next decide whether to seek leave to appeal both the fine and the possible deduction of points.

Should they seek leave to appeal, their case would be heard by head of the NRL Appeals Committee and former High Court judge Ian Callinan.

Should he decide there are grounds for a hearing, the Eels would be able to have their case heard before the full Appeals Committee.

The Eels have five days to decide whether to seek leave to appeal however they can request an extension.

An Eels spokesman said the club was considering its options and would make a decision at a later date.

The NRL has also reduced fines imposed on the Sydney Roosters for breaches of the under 20s salary cap last year from $41,292 to $25,000.
