NRL round three snapshot

NRL round three snapshot

SNAPSHOT OF ROUND THREE OF THE NRL:

THEY SAID IT: "We lost that game ourselves. Poor pieces of play, some individual performances tonight that weren't first grade standard." a frustrated RICKY STUART after Canberra surrendered an 18-0 lead on their way to losing 22-20 to struggling St George Illawarra on Saturday.

MAGIC MOMENT: GREG INGLIS is arguably in the best form of an outstanding career. The way in which James Tedesco was bumped off by the South Sydney skipper as he scored a try was simply breathtaking.

MAN OF THE ROUND: Back-rower TOHU HARRIS was outstanding for Melbourne with two tries in the win over Cronulla on Saturday. It's doubtful he'll be the fall guy again for any future New Zealand World Cup squads.

STAT THAT MATTERS: South Sydney's win over the West Tigers saw the Rabbitohs taste victory in the first three games of a season for only the third time since 1971.

INJURY UPDATE: Bulldogs: Brett Morris (knee); Sea Eagles: Jamie Lyon (leg), Steve Matai (shoulder); Raiders: Sisa Waqa (knee), Shannon Boyd (shoulder); Eels: Joseph Paulo (hip), Nathan Peats (concussion), Will Hopoate (concussion), Isaac De Gois (concussion); Warriors: Sam Tomkins (knee). Rabbitohs: Dylan Walker (hand).

JUDICIARY WATCH: Tigers: Pat Richards (lifting tackle); Cowboys: Matt Scott (high tackle); Rabbitohs: Glenn Stewart (lifting tackle).

TALKING POINT: The playing surface at Brookvale Oval wasn't fit for park football never mind an elite level NRL contest. Quite how a pitch can look so bad after three rounds is the question the NRL will be asking this week.

UNDER PRESSURE: No team has won a premiership after losing their first three games of the season. North Queensland are going to have to create history if they are to live up to yet another pre-season of hype.
