NRL Warrior Vatuvei granted medical leave

The Warriors have granted leave on medical grounds to giant winger Manu Vatuvei.

Warriors winger Manu Vatuvei has been granted leave on medical grounds as the fallout from the NRL club's prescription drug scandal continues.

A club statement on Tuesday confirmed the giant finisher had been given time off from the Auckland-based side.

"Following medical advice received today, Manu is now on leave. We would ask that everyone respects his and his family's right to privacy at this time," Warriors managing director Jim Doyle said.

Vatuvei was one of six Warriors dropped for Sunday's NRL match against St George Illawarra in Auckland after they breached protocol with their off-field behaviour in the wake of the 42-0 Anzac Day loss to Melbourne.

Along with Ben Matulino and Bodene Thompson, Vatuvei was also ruled ineligible for Friday's trans-Tasman Test against Australia in Newcastle.

Albert Vete, Sam Lisone and designated driver Konrad Hurrell were also dropped for the Dragons match after five of the six players admitted to mixing prescription drugs with energy drinks during a night out.

"We are also continuing to have meetings with the other players following last week's events," Doyle said.

"As our discussions with all players involved are confidential, we won't be releasing any further details or making further comment at this stage."
