NRL's Titans set for new owners in 2018

Gold Coast chief executive Graham Annesley says he expects the Titans to have new owners before the end of the year.

Gold Coast chief executive Graham Annesley expects the Titans to have new owners in time for the 2018 NRL season.

The NRL took over the running of the Titans in 2015 after the club experienced financial trouble.

"The NRL has made it very clear they will be conducting a transfer of ownership process in the back half of this year," Annesley said.

"My expectation of this will be a transfer of ownership before the NRL financial year starts which is 1 November."

The governing body took control of the club after a series of mishaps on the Gold Coast.

The build of an ill-fated centre of excellence, drug scandal and player walkouts all hit the youngest club in the NRL over a two-year period.

The Titans bounced back and in 2016 moved into the $12 million training facility at Parkwood over the summer.

They also signed star winger Jarryd Hayne.

"Our future is very rosy. We've been through through our troubles in the past but we're well positioned for the future and this club has got premierships within reach," Annesley said.

"There is local interest from people wanting to take over the club as well as Sydney - the North Sydney Bears have spoken about how eager they are to get involved.

While the national interest is nice, Annesley hopes the club remains in the hands of locals.

"Darryl Kelly is one of the previous owners of the club and a current board member, he is very interested in speaking to the NRL about getting a consortium together," he said.
