NSW charged after machete rampage

A man who allegedly went on a rampage in a small town in NSW's central west has been charged with numerous offences.

A man who allegedly armed himself with a machete and threatened another man has been charged with a string of offences including assault and resisting arrest in NSW's central west.

Police say the 25-year-old man was visiting relatives at Gulgong near Mudgee on Wednesday afternoon when he allegedly spat at and threatened them.

He then proceeded to a corner store on the same street and allegedly assaulted a man.

Police said the man then drove to a house where he threatened the occupants and damaged a car parked outside before driving to a hotel and damaging another car there.

They said the man and a relative then went to another house, allegedly armed with a machete and threatened a man there and later threatened a woman and her daughter over the phone.

At 6.10pm (AEDT) on Wednesday police arrested the man nearby and he has been charged with 22 offences.

They include intimidation, assault, malicious damage, traffic offences, assaulting/resisting police, intimidating police, street offences and possessing a dangerous implement.

He was refused bail to attend Mudgee Local Court on Thursday.
