The NSW Sheffield team will resume playing following the death of Phillip Hughes with a match against Queensland at the SCG starting on Tuesday.

Hughes' team, South Australia, are expected to confirm later on Sunday that they will return by playing Tasmania in Hobart starting on the same day.

Both states had promised to give their players as much time as they needed to grieve for Hughes, who died in a Shield match between the two sides at the SCG.

The matches will be played at the same time as the first Test against India in Adelaide after last Thursday's slated opener in Brisbane was postponed because of Hughes' death.

A NSW squad for the Shield match has yet to be named.

Players from both sides returned to their sport on Saturday via grade competitions.

Many of NSW's top players including Pat Cummins, Moises Henriques and Doug Bollinger turned out for their local clubs while all South Australian players returned to grade cricket.

Sean Abbott, the NSW bowler who delivered the ball that felled Hughes, did not return to grade cricket on Saturday.

Queensland on Saturday named its side to take on NSW with Cameron Gannon and Cameron Brimblecombe added to a 13-man squad in place of paceman Ryan Harris, who is on Australian duty.
