NSW firie to face 16 more arson charges

A young NSW firefighter, already before the courts for allegedly lighting fires, has been charged with 16 more offences, mostly related to arson.

Sixteen extra charges have been laid against a NSW firefighter for allegedly starting blazes on the state's central coast.

The 19-year-old part-time firefighter was charged with 23 arson-related offences in December last year for allegedly starting fires in bushland and bins in Toukley, Norah Head and Canton Beach. These matters remain before the courts.

Police said they charged the young firie on Thursday with another 16 offences, most of which related to arson.

More than 60 fires were lit in bushland and bins on the NSW Central Coast in December with all of the blazes believed to be linked, police say.

The accused firebug is due to face Wyong Local Court on April 22.
