NSW govt funds alcohol reduction program

A free program including coaching sessions and education has been launched by the NSW government to help reduce alcohol consumption.

People who want to kick their drinking habit will get a helping hand from the NSW government, which has launched a free alcohol reduction program.

Coaching calls, alcohol-related education, management and goal-setting strategies have been added to the state's Get Healthy service, which is designed to help people achieve a healthier lifestyle and reduce risk factors for chronic disease.

"Unhealthy alcohol use has significant short- and long-term health implications, including injuries and chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, mental health problems, liver diseases, cancer and cardiovascular diseases," Dr Jo Mitchell from the Centre for Population Health said in a statement on Friday.
