NSW haven't reached out to me yet: Fittler

Brad Fittler says he has yet to be approached to coach NSW in next year's State of Origin series.

NSW coaching candidate Brad Fittler insists he has yet to be approached by the Blues hierarchy as the wait continues on who will be the next coach of the state.

The NSW legend on Monday handed prop David Klemmer the Brad Fittler medal as the Blues' players' player in this year's series at their annual awards night.

However with NSWRL chairman George Peponis a notable absentee due to a pre-planned vacation, Fittler remains unsure if he'd be coaching Klemmer next year.

Sacked coach Laurie Daley was also away on holiday on the night.

"There are a few important people away at the moment so they've got to make some decisions," Fittler told AAP.

"I think everyone involved needs to relay their decision so their own employees can know. Almost all candidates spoken about have a job."

The Blues have yet to advertise the position, although it is understood the decision will come to a head at a board meeting in two weeks time.

"I haven't put my hand up. I've got no idea of the process. I believe they've got a meeting in two weeks. From there, I think everything will be clearer," Fittler said.

The former Blues champion says he remains committed to coaching Lebanon in the upcoming World Cup at the end of the year.

But he also believes there is light at the end of what has been a very dark tunnel for the Blues, having lost 11 of the past 12 series.

"I'm doing the Lebanese thing at the moment, so that's very interesting. I'm loving that. And the kids, I'm loving coaching the NSW under-16s and -18s," he said.

"We've got a long way to go for that coaching role. There's a very good footy team coming through and the fans deserve it. They've been very resilient."
