NSW Labor MP won't recontest whip position

Labor MP Noreen Hay says she will not stand for re-election as opposition whip when the position is spilled following an AFP investigation into a staffer.

NSW MP Noreen Hay has announced she won't be recontesting her position as opposition whip if the Labor caucus votes to remove her from the position.

But the member for Wollongong remains defiant, arguing that Labor leader Luke Foley's call for her to step down because of a federal police investigation into one of her staffers, is a mistake.

"I'm still at a loss to understand how taking disciplinary action against someone who has no allegations against them, is not a suspect, and has not been charged, is the right thing to do," Ms Hay said.
