A 22-year-old man has been charged with committing animal cruelty, and is accused of kicking a chihuahua to death in the NSW Hunter region.

A man from the NSW Hunter region is accused of kicking a chihuahua to death.

The 22-year-old Kurri Kurri man has been charged with committing animal cruelty.

The man was at a Cessnock home when he kicked the tiny dog to death on Friday night, police say.

He is due to appear before Cessnock Local Court on September 9.
