NSW man charged after fatal fight

A man has been charged with murder after he was allegedly involved in a fight that left one man dead in Tamworth in northwestern NSW.

A man has been charged with murder after a fatal bashing in NSW's New England region.

Police were called to a fight involving three people in Tamworth on Friday night.

They found a 52-year-old man with a head wound.

He declined medical treatment but died in hospital almost 24 hours later.

On Sunday night detectives arrested a 37-year-old Tamworth man and he was later charged with murder.

He was due to appear in Tamworth Local Court on Monday.

Acting NSW police crime manager Detective Inspector Jason Darcy said the man and the victim knew each other and the alleged assault wasn't random.

Police said the victim refused medical treatment on Friday night but allowed officers to drive him home.

The 52-year-old then went to Tamworth Base Hospital on Saturday with significant internal injuries and died a few hours later.
