A man has been charged after several homemade bombs exploded outside the house of his former de facto on the NSW far south coast.

Police say a Surfside couple were woken in the early hours of Monday by loud noises outside their home after four small devices were detonated.

Police arrested a 48-year-old man known to the couple at a Moruya home, where they seized materials allegedly used to make the explosive devices, as well as a cross-bow and samurai sword.

The man was charged, refused bail and will appear in Bega Local Court on Wednesday.
