Police have charged a man with raping three intellectually disabled men on the mid-north coast of NSW.

Detectives arrested the 37-year-old man at a Taree address on Tuesday following a year-long investigation into the alleged sexual offences.

The assaults all occurred in the Taree area since 2011, police said.

The man faces seven counts of having sexual intercourse with a person with a cognitive impairment and six counts of aggravated sexual assault on a victim with cognitive impairment.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Forster Local Court on Wednesday.

Police said investigations are continuing and they are appealing for anyone with more information to come forward.
