NSW 'most wanted' hands himself in in WA

A man wanted over the stabbing murder of a man in Auburn earlier this month has handed himself in to Western Australian police.

One of NSW's most wanted men has handed himself in to Western Australia police over the alleged murder of his flatmate.

Changjie Wang, 23, was added to the state's most wanted list this week, following the stabbing of his flatmate Gongcheng Chen, also 23, in Auburn in Sydney's west on February 3.

Strike Force Grantsdale was formed to investigate the death and on Friday night officers were alerted that the 23-year-old had been arrested in Perth by Western Australian police.

New South Wales Police Inspector Alan Janson said police in the two states had been working together.

"We have been making a number of inquiries following the murder. Some of those inquiries led to Western Australia. And with our assistance of our counterparts in Western Australia they made some inquiries for us at some addresses there and prompted the gentleman to attend the police station and turn himself in," he told ABC Radio on Saturday.

Detectives are expected to fly to Perth in coming days to apply for the man's extradition to NSW.

His arrest comes after Mr Chen's mother and sister appeared before the media on Monday, appealing for anyone with information about the murder to come forward.

Police have previously said that neighbours were woken the night of the murder to the sounds of fighting and shouting at the flatmates' Marion Street block in Auburn.

Shortly after, emergency services found Mr Chen's body, along with a knife.
