A NSW mother will face court next month for allegedly poisoning her daughter through a drip and giving her tablets that caused medical problems.

A NSW mother has been charged after allegedly poisoning her child, leaving her in hospital with life-threatening renal failure.

Police allege the nine-year-old girl was poisoned intravenously earlier this year and hospitalised.

It was from then detectives began investigating the girl's history and discovered she was also allegedly administered tablets that caused medical complications last year.

The child's mother was arrested at a property in the NSW Hunter region on Tuesday.

The 42-year-old was charged with two offences, including using poison to endanger life, and was granted bail to appear in court next month.

Meanwhile the Child Abuse Squad is continuing to investigate her daughter's medical history.

The girl has been released from hospital after being treated for life-threatening kidney failure and other serious medical conditions, police say.
