NSW mum jailed for police pursuit with kid

A mother whose 10-year-old son was in a stolen Mercedes when she sparked a police pursuit has been sentenced to at least four months in prison.

A NSW woman who led police on a chase while her 10-year-old son was in the stolen car with her has been sentenced to at least four months in prison.

But with time already served, the 31-year-old could be released as early as next month.

Police say the woman, who can't be named for legal reasons, had her son in the car when she was driving the stolen Mercedes 4WD on the Hume Highway at Greenacre in Sydney's southwest in March.

Officers activated their sirens but she failed to stop.

During the pursuit that followed, police said the mother, who was unlicensed, travelled over median strips, mounted a kerb and drove over a grassed area in a bid to get away.

She was eventually arrested after crashing through a chain wire fence, police said at the time.

Her son, who was not hurt, was later placed into the care of family.

On Thursday she was sentenced to at least four months in prison and a maximum of 12 months for a litany of offences, including driving whilst disqualified, driving dangerously and not stopping for police.

Magistrate Robert Williams at Newtown Local Court also disqualified her from holding a driver's licence for two years.
