Police are no longer actively searching a northern NSW beach for two missing brothers, despite sighting one of the boys at the location on Wednesday afternoon.
Police searched bushland at Tallow Beach in Byron Bay after discovering a campsite where they believe Jayden and Joseph Brady, 14 and 11, had been staying with their father.
The pair was last seen at a home in Tweed Heads, on the NSW north coast, about 3am on Sunday.
Police allege their father took them from the home, in the process breaching a court order preventing him from having access to his sons.
Daniel Brady, 38, was arrested over the breach but refused to co-operate with police in locating the boys.
He was subsequently bailed in the Lismore Local Court on Tuesday, but reportedly gave the court a false address as his residence.
A search of bushland at Tallow Beach begun after a tip-off from a member of the public, but it was called off at dusk with police claiming the boys were actively avoiding search parties after one officer spotted one of the brothers, who then fled into the bush.
Acting Superintendent Shane Cribb from the Tweed Heads-Byron local area command told AAP the ground search had been cancelled but police were still investigating and appealing for any public information that may help with locating the boys and their father.
