NSW set for wild weather this weekend

NSW residents have been told to be ready for wild weather this weekend.

NSW is set to be lashed by wild weather for a third straight day, with thunderstorms, large hail and powerful winds predicted.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe storm warning for all eastern areas of the state on Friday afternoon.

And more storms are on the way for the weekend, with Saturday's conditions set to be the nastiest.

The eastern third of the state and Riverina district will be worst affected with heavy and widespread downpours that could reach 50-100mm.

"We're in thunderstorm season for NSW at the moment," bureau forecaster Chris Webb said.

"But this particular event has been persistent, which makes it unusual."

The State Emergency Service received about 300 calls for help overnight and has several thousand volunteers on standby across the state.

Crews will be stationed at flash-flood hotspots in Sydney, while the Belubula River in the central west region will be on flood watch on Saturday.

"Definitely not a good afternoon for golf tomorrow," SES spokesman Phil Campbell said.

"While it's still sunny, clean your gutters and downpipes, secure loose items in your yard or balcony like trampolines and also check your roof is in good repair."
