A 21-year-old NSW woman has been charged with the attempted murder of a man police allege she was hired to kill.
Michael Martin survived an April 2014 attack during a home invasion at the South Murwillumbah home but he was killed two months later in another home invasion.
Police say the woman was hired with two others to kill Mr Martin, 46, in his northern NSW home.
He was stabbed multiple times and found injured along with a 49-year-old man.
Both men spent a considerable time recovering in hospital.
Two months later, there was another home invasion and this time Mr Martin was tied up, stabbed and brutally bashed in the head.
Mr Martin's son, who was also tied up during the June 2014 ordeal, helplessly watched on but survived with minor injuries.
At the time, AAP was told an axe was found nearby.
Police say the 21-year-old woman was not present at the second incident.
She is due to face Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday, charged with attempted murder and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.
"We are also trying to identify if there is a link between that original incident on 7 April, and the second home invasion on 13 June which resulted in the death of Mr Martin," Homicide Squad Inspector Grant Taylor said.
