NT MP charged over govt car offence

An independent Northern Territory MLA has been charged with letting her 17-year-old nephew, who doesn't have a licence, drive her government car.

Independent Northern Territory MP Larisa Lee has been charged with letting her 17-year-old unlicensed nephew drive her government car.

Northern Territory police have confirmed the vehicle was pulled over near Katherine shortly after 11pm on Friday.

Ms Lee, a member of the Legislative Assembly, was not with her nephew at the time and has been given a notice to appear in the Katherine Local Court on July 5.

She is entitled to a taxpayer-funded vehicle that can be driven only by individuals registered with parliament.

MPs must supply a current NT licence for all authorised drivers.

Ms Lee's office declined to comment.
