NT to launch sex offender website law

A website that pinpoints the whereabouts of sex offenders in the NT could become a reality if parliament passes new legislation this week.

The Northern Territory will this week become the first Australian jurisdiction to introduce legislation for a public website pinpointing the whereabouts of convicted serious sex offenders.

The Sex Offender and Child Homicide Offender Public Website Bill 2015 (Daniel's Law) is named for child murder victim Daniel Morcombe and will be introduced to NT Parliament during this week's sittings.

The website will list serious offenders, including those convicted of the murder or manslaughter of children, other reportable offenders who have absconded and whose whereabouts are unknown, and offenders who come to the NT with equivalent convictions in other jurisdictions.
