NZ drunk mum caught driving

NZ police are shocked at the reckless behaviour of a learner driver they pulled over who was drunk and had an unrestrained child in the front seat.

A young, drunk, New Zealand mother who was driving with an unrestrained child in the front seat and a drunk, pregnant friend smoking in the back seat, has been pulled over by police.

New Zealand police hardly know where to start in condemning the behaviour.

The woman will face excess breath alcohol and child neglect charges in Hamilton District Court later this week.

She was pulled over in Hamilton on Wednesday afternoon just after 3pm, Senior Sergeant Kevin Anderson, said.

A three-year-old child was standing up in the front passenger seat and the mother, who was a learner driver, returned an excess alcohol test result.

The drunk, pregnant woman who was smoking in the back seat had her car impounded last week for driving while her licence was suspended.

Police are also concerned that the offences occured just as school was getting out.

"There are children from primary, intermediate and the local high school converging on this intersection at the very time this incident occurred and it is not OK to put so many vulnerable people at risk by such selfish behaviour," Sen Sgt Anderson said.
