An IT systems manager who fled to Australia after the company he worked for uncovered a $NZ1 million fraud has been found guilty of 55 charges.
Jimmy Ming Miu, 47, has been found guilty in Auckland District Court on Wednesday of charges including using a document with intent to defraud and dishonestly using a document.
The charges were laid by the Serious Fraud Office and date back to when Miu was the IT systems manager for McKay Shipping between 2000 and 2006.
Miu purchased computer hardware and software using the trading name Avanti Systems or Avanti Systems Integration.
He invoiced his employer for the computer products and in his position as IT manager also approved the invoices for payment.
The invoices were either highly inflated or false in that the products were never supplied or the products were not required by his employer.
Miu was found guilty in relation to 55 invoices submitted to McKay Shipping over six years and totalling in excess of $NZ1 million.
He fled to Australia when the fraud was discovered by his employer.
He was extradited from Australia in October 2011.
He will be sentenced on May 5.
