NZ two from two at Las Vegas sevens

New Zealand beat Scotland 26-5 for their second win in pool play at the rugby sevens world series in Las Vegas.

New Zealand have eased to a second win in the fourth leg of the rugby sevens world series in Las Vegas, downing Scotland 26-5 in pool play.

Tries to George Tilsley, Tim Mikkelsen and Ambrose Curtis gave the All Blacks Sevens a 19-5 lead at halftime, with James Johnstone crossing for Scotland.

Mikkelsen converted his own try early in a low-scoring second half to wrap up the win.

Earlier, New Zealand withstood a strong start from Australia to win their opening pool match 31-7.

Cameron Clark dotted down then converted his own try to give Australia an early 7-0 lead, but tries to Scott Curry and David Raikuna put the New Zealanders back on top 12-7 at halftime.

They kept Australia scoreless in the second spell while extending the margin with another try for Curry and a brace for Sam Dickson.

New Zealand are without playmaker Tomasi Cama, a late withdrawal after suffering a calf injury in training earlier in the week, and are also missing experienced players Ben Lam and Declan O'Donnell.

Their final pool B match is on Sunday morning (NZT) against Fiji, who were beaten 22-21 by Australia on Saturday.

After three legs of the nine-tournament series, New Zealand lead the standings on 58 points, ahead of South Africa (56) and Fiji (48).
