NZ's Erakovic out of French Open

Marina Erakovic suffers a straight-sets loss to Czech fifth-seed Petra Kvitova in the second round of the French Open.

New Zealander Marina Erakovic's French Open campaign has ended at the hands of Czech fifth seed Petra Kvitova.

The world No.61 was far from outplayed in a 6-4 6-4 loss on Thursday but Kvitova proved too strong in the key moments.

Erakovic was unable to match her effort of reaching the third round at Roland Garros last year and will now turn her attention to the women's doubles.

She and Spainard Arantxa Parra Santonja are seeded 16th and will face German duo Kristina Barrois and Annika Beck in the second round on Friday.

Former Wimbledon winner Kvitova meets Russian 27th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in the third round of the singles.
