NZ's Walsh keeps world gold after protest

New Zealand's Tom Walsh has survived a second protest against his shot put gold medal at the world athletics championships in London.

New Zealand's Tom Walsh has survived a second protest against his shot put gold medal before standing on the victory dais at the world championships in London.

Tom Walsh was presented with his world championships gold medal in London on Monday but not before he had seen off another protest from a rival shot putter.

New Zealander Walsh became the first Kiwi man to clinch a world outdoor title 24 hours earlier, winning with a best distance of 22.03m.

Silver medallist Joe Kovacs was unsuccessful with a quick-fire appeal, the defending champion disputing the foul ruling of a throw which reached 22.08m.

It has emerged that a second American, Ryan Crouser, launched a subsequent appeal against a foul ruling. It was also dismissed by the jury of appeal.

Olympic champions Crouser, who finished a disappointing sixth, was red-flagged following a third-round throw which sailed to 22.31m.
