Officers off frontline doing menial tasks

Protective Services Officers say they are being removed from Victorian train stations to do menial administration tasks amid bullying claims.

Protective Services Officers claim they are being made to do menial tasks like shred paper instead of protecting Victorians at train stations as they were hired to do.

Numerous PSOs have been removed from the frontline to take on administration duties, the Herald Sun reports.

The PSOs are also made to fetch lunch for higher ranking officers, clean kitchens, empty bins and wash cars, the newspaper says.

It comes amid allegations of widespread bullying against PSOs.

Victoria Police say they are not aware of all the allegations made to the newspaper, but a number of issues raised relate to one member, which is being investigated.

"The welfare of those people making the allegations is an absolute priority," a Victoria Police spokeswoman told AAP.

Victoria Police say PSOs could be placed on administration or light duties for a number of reasons including being sick or injured, pregnant, being unable to maintain mandatory qualifications, or are subject to disciplinary matters.

IBAC would not confirm or deny reports they are investigating the allegations.

The Police Association has been contacted for comment.
