Sebastien Ogier holds a slender lead over rival and championship leader Thierry Neuville going into the final day of the Rally Italia Sardegna.
Five-times world champion Ogier, who had stormed into the overall lead from fifth place on Friday, saw his 18.9-second advantage cut to 3.9secs on the penultimate day.
Neuville cut the gap significantly before midday and Ogier lost another two seconds with a start-line stall in Saturday's first afternoon test.
A slow front right puncture slowed Neuville's challenge, but he hit back to win Saturday's last two stages to keep the pressure on Frenchman Ogier.
Neuville's Toyota team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala and Esapekka Lappi are locked in an equally close battle for third place, 48.9 and 54.2secs respectively behind the Belgian.
