O'Hanlon claims second IPC gold

Evan O'Hanlon (C) has won his second gold medal at the IPC athletics world championships in France.

Evan O'Hanlon has claimed his second gold medal at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon.

The dual Paralympic champion won the T38 cerebral palsy 200m on Thursday to complement his victory in the 100m on Tuesday.

The world record holder burst out of the blocks and led around the bend before breaking away to win with a time of 21.95, ahead of South Africa's Dyan Buis in second (22.85) and Great Britain's Lee Whiteley in third (23.00)

"Being a perfectionist I would have hoped for a bit of a faster time, but given the preparation I have had with some time in hospital four weeks ago I am very proud," O'Hanlon said.

"It's great to have so many athletes around me starting to push me to the line, that's why I am so exhausted right now, and that's a sign that our sport is on the up which is a great thing."

O'Hanlon's gold was one of five medals won on an impressive night of competition for the Australian Flame.

Adding silver medals to the Australian tally were Gabriel Cole and Rheed McCracken in the T46 arm amputee 100m and the T34 wheelchair 100m respectively.

In the men's T38 1500m Deon Kenzie won bronze and Richard Colman was third in the T54 wheelchair 5000m.
