Old explosives found on Great Ocean Road

Old explosives have been found on Victoria's Great Ocean Road while loose rocks were being removed from cliff faces.

Old explosives have been found on Victoria's tourist hotspot the Great Ocean Road and police are working to safely remove them.

The gelignite sticks were dislodged from the rock face at Cumberland River on Wednesday while works to remove loose rocks were underway.

The Great Ocean Road is closed between Cumberland River and Lorne, further traffic diversions will be in place at Wye River, but police say there is not threat to the public and arrangements are being made to remove the explosives.
