Miguel Oliveira has scored Red Bull KTM Ajo's maiden Moto2 race win, the Portuguese star storming to a runaway victory at Phillip Island on Sunday.

Completing a stunning day for Red Bull, Oliveira's teammate Brad Binder claimed second place, with championship leader Franco Morbidelli (Marc VDS) third.

"I couldn't be more grateful for this win," Oliveira said.

"With three laps to go it started raining and I had a six seconds lead then I was too cautious and the gap was reduced.

"I stressed a little bit - it was the longest race of my life - but I'm so happy for my team.

"My first win in the category and the first for Red Bull KTM and not the last hopefully."

Importantly for Morbidelli his only championship rival, CarXpert Interwetten's Thomas Luthi, finished back in 10th position, which stretched the gap at the top of the standings to 29 points with two races left.

Australian rider Remy Gardner (Tech 3 Racing) finished in the points back in 15th position.

Mattia Pasini (Italtrans Racing) started from pole position, but his race ended early when Marcel Schrotter (Dynavolt Intact GP) clattered into him on the second lap.
