Australian sport fans keen to head to Rio next year and watch the Olympic Games can now start requesting their tickets.

The public will have until 10am (AEST) on May 5 to submit requests to Australia's only authorised ticket seller, CoSport (cosport.com.au), and will be advised of their success on May 11, the Australian Olympic Committee announced on Thursday.

Those who don't get what they're after will have another opportunity to secure tickets from May 19 as a part of a first-come, first-served live sales process.

Cheapest tickets start at $27 for preliminary rounds in sports including canoe/kayak sprint, hockey and rowing, and medal events such as mountain bike and open water swimming.

Those who fancy watching Sally Pearson try to defend her London 2012 title at the athletics will be up for at least $175 for Category D tickets, and up to $574 for Category A seats.
