Three men who stumbled into Liverpool Hospital's emergency department with stab wounds, one of whom later died, are believed to have known each other.

A crime scene has been set up at a house on Sadleir Avenue at Ashcroft and a car seized by officers.

The emergency department at Liverpool Hospital was forced into lockdown when a 24-year-old from Macquarie Fields and a 25-year-old Ingleburn man staggered into the ward with stab wounds to their upper bodies at about 9.30pm on Monday.

Moments later, a 30-year-old Mount Pritchard man also arrived with stab wounds.

The 24-year-old died a short time later, while the other two remain in a serious but stable condition.

Detectives on Tuesday executed a warrant at the Ashcroft home.

"A crime scene was established at the home after evidence was found suggesting a confrontation had taken place at the home last night," Police said in a statement.

Police are awaiting the results of forensic examination to confirm if the crime scene is linked to the stabbing death of the man.

It's believed all three men knew each other.

A grey sedan was seized by investigators, raising questions over whether they walked to the hospital or arrived by car.

Initial information led officers to Bigge Park next to the hospital.

Witnesses at the hospital say the men's late-night arrival was "chaotic".

"There was one sitting directly across from my room and he was just out of control, cursing, swearing and going off at the police," one woman told the Nine Network on Tuesday.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A post mortem examination was to be conducted on the Macquarie Fields man.
