One freed, one man trapped in Melb trench

One man has been freed but another remains trapped in a collapsed tench in Melbourne's north.

One man has been freed and taken to hospital while another remains trapped in a collapsed, four-metre deep trench in Melbourne.

Emergency crews were called to High Street, Epping, just before noon.

A man in his 20s has been rescued and taken to The Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition, but his injuries are not yet known, according to Ambulance Victoria.

Paramedics are still on the scene assessing the second worker who remains trapped.

Twenty-four firefighters are on scene, along with police. WorkSafe has been notified.
