One in four Vic injury deaths are suicide

Suicide accounted for one-fourth of Victorian injury deaths over a three-year period, new data shows.

One in every four Victorian injury deaths were ruled as suicide over a three-year span, a new data study shows.

Of the 7092 Victorian injury fatalities from 2013 to 2015, 1819 were intentionally self-inflicted, with adults aged 24 to 64 accounting for more than three-quarters of those injuries.

Monash University's Victorian Injury Surveillance Unit report, released on Friday, found falls made up 35.4 per cent, suicide was 25.6 per cent and transport accidents were 12.8 per cent of all Victorian injury deaths over the period.
