One man responsible for Skye death: father

The father of a Sydney toddler killed during a police pursuit has told an inquest that there is only one person responsible for her death.

The father of a "bright" and "cheeky" Sydney toddler who died during a police pursuit of an armed robber has told her inquest that there is only one person responsible for destroying his family.

Skye Sassine died from head injuries after William Ngati's vehicle slammed into the back of her parents' car on New Year's Eve in 2009.

Ngati was being chased through Sydney's southwest by police after robbing bottle shops at Peakhurst and East Hills at gunpoint earlier that evening.

In 2012, Ngati was sentenced to at least eight-and-a-half years for the 19-month-old girl's manslaughter.

An inquest is examining the police chase and will determine if any recommendations should be made about changing NSW's pursuit policy.

Skye's father Justin Wright told her inquest on Thursday that his 19-month-old daughter was "very intelligent and bright for a little girl".

"(There was) always a cheeky grin on her face," he told Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court.

He said he and his partner Aimee knew who was responsible.

"As far as we're concerned there's only one person responsible for this and he's sitting behind bars right now," he added.

At Ngati's sentencing in 2012, the court heard he drove at speeds of up to 160km/h, ran red lights and drove on the wrong side of the road.

Ngati then crashed into the Sassine family car at Ingleburn in Sydney's southwest.

Skye died in Mr Wright's arms.

Her death sparked the passage of Skye's Law, which created a separate offence of leading police on a high-speed chase.

The inquest continues.
