Australians have just one week to enrol for the upcoming federal election.

Voting in the May 18 poll is compulsory, but almost 600,000 people aged 18 and over are still not on the electoral roll.

People who have not yet registered and those who have recently moved or changed their names have until next Thursday to lodge their details with the Australian Electoral Commission.
