Only 1 in 5 Aussies very confident in CPR

New research suggests just 1 in 5 Australians feel very confident to commence CPR.

Most Australians feel incapable of stepping in to assist in first aid emergencies and few are trained in CPR, data suggests.

Only one in five are trained and confident in responding to a first aid emergency, according to the Roy Morgan research.

To help plug the knowledge gap, a bus designed to bring free specialised CPR and First Aid training in just 10 minutes will kick off a Victorian tour on Wednesday.

Over the next four weeks, participants can go head-to-head with friends and colleagues to test their skills at saving lives when the CPRLAB rolls into town.

"Our CPRLAB is mobile, fast and fun - it's a direct reflection of our mission to make First Aid as accessible as possible," St John Ambulance Victoria chief executive Stephen Horton said.

"The CPR Challenge incorporates music and gamification techniques to make learning more engaging. This is First Aid training like never before.

"It questions the 'it will never happen to me' mentality that many of us are guilty of.

The tour starts in Southbank at 7.30am.
