Operation Sovereign Borders' achievements

With the change of leadership in the government's 'stop the boats' strategy, some of the key figures behind Operation Sovereign Borders have been released.

OPERATION SOVEREIGN BORDERS

* Began in 2013 under the Abbott government.

* 34 boat returns, with at least 800 people sent back to their country of departure or origin.

* Disruption of 79 people-smuggling ventures affecting over 2500 people.

* 616 people arrested by regional law enforcement authorities.
