Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo has come up with a new fast-charging technique for smartphones that it says provides two hours of phone time after only five minutes of charging.

"That puts us in the global lead," says Oppo deputy chief Ski Li.

Dubbed VOOC, the charger will come with the firm's new R7 and R7 Plus models, but will eventually be released for other devices.

Oppo is one of many Chinese firms fighting for a bigger share of the global smartphone market.
