A Broome Shire councillor and Indigenous academic is speaking out against against hydraulic fracturing or fracking in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
Dr Anne Poelina says a recent meeting in Broome was designed to inform Indigenous communities about the controversial practice.
The West Australian parliament is currently conducting an inquiry into the potential environmental effects of fracking, as resource companies show interest in the Kimberley's shale gas deposits.
Dr Poelina told Georgie Moore she has concerns about the long-term environmental effects.
