Orica-AIS win again in cycling

London Olympian Melissa Hoskins has won stage two of the Santos Women's Tour, two days after being hurt in a training crash.

Top Australian team Orica-AIS are dominating the Santos Women's Tour, with Melissa Hoskins winning stage two.

The London Olympian also improved from third to second overall as Italian team-mate Valentina Scandolara retained her six-second overall lead.

Hoskins won the bunch sprint at the end of the 23.8km circuit race in Adelaide's East End.

Fellow Australian Kimberley Wells, the newly-crowned national criterium champion, was second and Annette Edmondson took third.

Scandolara stayed out of trouble and finished eighth to retain her lead.

It was a morale-boosting win for Hoskins, who was hit by a car two days ago on a training ride.

"Keeping the jersey was the No.1 priority - it was the No.1 target," the WA rider said.

"Anything else is a bonus. We're pretty stoked.

"I didn't really have a wheel to sprint off, I just went."

Hoskins said the lack of breakaways during the stage was not because of negative racing, but simply because the pace was so fast.

Scandolara said it will be harder to retain the lead in Monday's road stage from Tanunda to Campbelltown, but has confidence in her team.

"I have an amazing team," she said.

"It's never easy to keep the jersey, but with this team, it's much easier."
