Orica to record $191m in first-half items

Explosives maker Orica will record $191 million in writedowns and impairments when it posts its first-half results next month.

Explosives maker Orica will record $191 million in writedowns and impairments in next month's first-half results.

Orica said on Monday it will write down the value of its Burrup ammonium nitrate plant in WA by $155 million and take a $36 million pre-tax impairment against assets made obsolete by new software.

The company, which in 2018 slipped to a $48.1 million full-year loss on $372.3 million of significant items, said the Burrup writedown was related to the repair or replacement of defective components.

At 1215 AEST, Orica shares were 1.05 per cent lower at $18.80, compared to a 0.47 per cent decline for the overall market.
