Origin coaches wants teams kept apart

Rival Origin coaches Mal Meninga and Laurie Daley want the 10m rule to be keenly policed at the MCG on Wednesday.

Rival State of Origin coaches Mal Meninga and Laurie Daley have called for a concerted policing of the 10m rule in game two on Wednesday.

NSW's Daley has neglected to publicly air his concerns over the Game I performance of referees Gerard Sutton, Ben Cummins, in the lead up to the Blues' must-win encounter at the MCG.

However Meninga has been happy to applaud the whistleblowers for their efforts in Queensland's 11-10 Game I win in Sydney last month. And he said he wants more of the same this time around.

"We just want it reffed in the appropriate way," Meninga said.

"All the referees did a fantastic job Game I, and I'm not quite sure if anything will be different in Game II.

"For us, we just want to play a game where the 10 metres is good and it'll open the game up where we can display our skills and I'm pretty sure Laurie's the same.

"We want it to be a spectacular event, a great game, the best way for that is to keep the teams apart."

When asked for his thoughts on the matter, Daley simply offered: "I agree".

Meninga said the Blues' scrambling defence, and Queensland's attempts to counter it, would again be a key factor in the match.

"Origin is about taking opportunities, at the end of the day I thought NSW, their defence and their decision making (in game one), especially their scrambling defence was spot on," Meninga said.

"That is one of the real assets of their team, that is one of the real reasons why they won the series last year.

"Their efforts and their decision making under pressure was extraordinary (last year) and it needed to be."
