Origin discovers gas off Victorian coast

Origin shares have fallen despite its announcement of a commercial gas discovery off the Victorian coast.

Energy producer Origin has discovered a potential commercial quantity of gas off the Victorian coast.

It was discovered about 30km south-east of Warrnambool in the Otway Basin.

Origin's Speculant 1 exploration well covers a seven kilometre area near the coast.

Drilling began in September.

Origin shares fell 28 cents, or 2.4 per cent, to $11.06 by 1119 AEDT amid fresh falls in commodity prices.
