Origin Energy will drop out of the Australian share market's list of top 20 companies, while Cabcharge, troubled law firm Slater & Gordon, and Ten Network will also lose their place from the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index.

The changes, part of a quarterly review of the ASX indices, will take affect after close of trading on March 18.

Origin shares have fallen more than 50 per cent in the past 12 months as Australia's largest gas and power retailer has struggled amid a slide in oil prices.

Slater & Gordon shares have been the worst performer among Australia's top 200 listed companies, losing 95 per cent of their market value over mounting concerns about its recent UK acquisition.

Origin will be replaced by toll road operator Transurban in the Top 20 list, while additions to the Top 200 include software firm Aconex, baby food maker Bellamy's, building products firm Brickworks and intellectual property services firm IPH.
