"Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Italy striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo," the club said on their official website (www.saintsfc.co.uk).

Osvaldo, who was born in Argentina, has been capped nine times for Italy and played under Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino while at Espanyol.

Southampton began the new season with a 1-0 win away at West Brom on Saturday courtesy of new England international Rickie Lambert's 90th minute penalty.
