Out of control blaze in NSW Hunter region

The fire burning in the NSW Hunter region has been downgraded from watch and act to advice level after firefighters gained an upper hand on the blaze.

Firefighters are gaining an upper hand on an out-of-control bushfire in the NSW Hunter region.

The blaze is burning at Main Creek, Dungog, with the Rural Fire Service downgrading it to an advice level at 2.30pm on Monday.

Firefighters have established containment lines around the fire which allowed them to gain an upper hand on the blaze.

The threat has significantly reduced and no homes are under threat, a RFS spokesman told AAP on Monday.
