Oyonnax swamped by Flood in French rugby

England's Toby Flood has scored all the points for Toulouse on debut in their 20-19 Top 14 win over Oyonnax.

Former England five-eighth Toby Flood made a memorable Top 14 rugby debut for Toulouse scoring all their points in a 20-19 victory over Oyonnax on Saturday.

The 29-year-old, who has 60 England caps, decided to end his international career to join Toulouse from Leicester this season and took just eight minutes to make his mark for his new club when he went over for a try.

Elsewhere, last season's beaten finalists Castres went down at home 25-22 to Stade Francais while two late penalties from Irish international five-eighth Jonathan Sexton helped Racing-Metro to a 19-16 win at Montpellier.

Both promoted clubs, Lyon and La Rochelle tasted defeat.

Lyon lost 18-9 to Bordeaux-Begles while La Rochelle can expect a tough season after being thumped 37-15 by Brive.

Clermont began life without coach Vern Cotter, who decamped to take over the Scottish national side, with a hard fought 30-26 win at home to Grenoble.

On Friday, defending champions Toulon began life after Jonny Wilkinson with a battling 29-15 victory at Bayonne.
